Biomolecular switches: A palmitoylated bis-tyrosine-based short-peptide amphiphile (sPA) transforms its morphology in the presence of bioactive transition-metal ions. The metal-ion-conjugated sPA hybrid nanostructures were effective against Gram-positive bacteria. It was found that the designed sPA was greatly taken up by bacteria and therefore acted as a cytotoxic metal ion delivery agent.
