The self-assembly of the helix-initiating dipeptide Pro-Pro has been investigated. In the absence of CuII ions the dipeptide self-assembled into micrometer-sized three-dimensional dumbbells. Furthermore, the presence of CuII ions triggered the dumbbells to form into robust 3D radial disc structures, which could be of great interest for several biotechnological applications.
